As we previously reported, Drumstruck, the South African musical that has played at different locations throughout the world, is headed to Dodger Stages. The show has announced a May 12 start date at the venue.
"Drumstruck is very exciting in that it is the first show where everyone in the audience has a drum to play," creator Warren Lieberman explained. "Drumming brings people together very quickly, bonding the players to a unique rhythm making each person feel a part of the whole symphony. I think New York will be the perfect place for Drumstruck."
Lieberman, who is also the founder of The Drum Café which launched corporate drumming in South Africa, teamed with Kathy-Jo Ross in 2001 to develop Drumstruck. Every audience member is provided with an African djembe drum to contribute to the experience of the show. The cast members also drum and dance during Drumstruck.
David Warren Holiday and Summer and Smoke on Broadway will helm the New York mounting of Drumstruck, which will be housed at Dodger Stages Stage 2.
